The Fitness Directory

The Fitness Directory needed to work for two different users in the same app. Fitness professionals needed a way to find temporary, casual, or flexible work around their existing schedule. At the same time, gyms and fitness venues needed a quicker way to post shifts and find qualified people for staff or class cover without going through a full recruitment process. The app also needed to keep the practical parts of that process, including availability, applications, timesheets, payments, and compliance, in one place.

We built The Fitness Directory mobile app in React Native with separate experiences for Instructors and Venues. Instructors could search available jobs, filter opportunities, view the location, required qualifications, experience, schedule, hours, and payment before applying. They could also track their applications and receive alerts when a new job matched their skills or when they had been hired. Venues could create job listings directly from the app, including the job description, location, shift type, required qualifications, skills, experience, dates, and working hours. They could then manage active jobs and incoming applications from the same app. The wider Fitness Directory platform also included fitness courses and clothing alongside its recruitment services.

The finished app brought the main staffing flow into one place for both sides. Venues could post and manage shifts, while fitness professionals could find work, review the full job details, apply, and receive updates through the app. Availability, timesheets, payments, and compliance were also handled as part of the same platform. The app was released publicly on Android and was also built for iOS.
